Alleviation of Osteoarthritis Symptoms

Alleviation of osteoarthritis symptoms in 22 patients with the use of pulsed electromagnetic fields was the purpose of a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study (Arneja, 2011) conducted in a rehabilitation facility in Winnipeg, Canada.

The main aim was to alleviate chronic back pain in patients. They were therefore, for the purposes of this study, divided into two groups. 14 patients underwent pulsed magnetic therapy and the remaining 8 patients in the control group served for comparison and evaluation of the results.

The study reported a significant improvement in physical health and fitness of patients affected by the effects of pulsed electromagnetic fields. Overall, their mobility improved. Significant pain relief was also confirmed in these patients, whereas patients’ conditions in the control group worsened.

Pulsed magnetic therapy thus significantly relieves symptoms of osteoarthritis, primarily due to analgesic effect. It has an undeniable positive effect on the physical condition and health of patients.
