Damaged Sciatic Nerve and Therapeutic Combination
Damaged sciatic nerve and therapeutic combination of swimming and pulsed magnetic therapy in an animal model. In 2014, a team of E. Kavlak conducted a clinical trial of this therapy and also used a control group for evaluation.
Given the fierce pain that accompanies sciatica, this recent study assessed, among other things, the potential to enhance therapeutic effects of low-frequency pulsed magnetic therapy by another rehabilitation method.
The combined effect of pulsed magnetic field with 2 Hz frequency and 0.3 mT intensity (one hour a day, five days a week for 4 weeks) and therapeutic swimming on damaged sciatic nerve was compared to the control group.
Based on the comparison of results, the experimental group that was combining pulsed magnetic therapy with therapeutic swimming confirmed already after the first week that the combined method of treatment positively contributes to nerve regeneration and at the same time significantly enhances the regeneration of the injured sciatic nerve throughout the period of treatment. However, four weeks proved to be insufficient for complete regeneration so extended therapy is recommended.
